Retexturing Asphalt
Road retexturing is an important form of maintenance to busy highways. Even with the advanced road building materials and techniques of today, busy carriageways will eventually lose their traction through excessive traffic and the effects of weather. Excessive rain, snow and ice coupled with a high volume of vehicles can make the road surface crack and deteriorate or become smoother in sections. This becomes a safety hazard when stopping distances are increased. Areas at junctions and roundabouts can require road retexturing to restore the gripping characteristics of the asphalt, which in turn leads to improved road safety.
Retexuring involves the mechanical reworking of an existing surface to improve its frictional skid resistance. In addition to improving road safety, the re-use of the road surface via retexturing considerably reduces the attendant resource and energy consumption in quarrying, processing, laying new road surface and waste Disposal.
